Troy Russell Halligan “Rusty”
Rusty Halligan, 73, passed away unexpectedly on December 4, 2023, at his home in Duncan, South Carolina. He was born September 4, 1950, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Joe Troy Halligan and Juanita Riner Halligan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Lee Halligan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Champey Halligan, of Duncan, and one sister, Susan Halligan, of Savannah.
Rusty was a 1968 honor graduate of H. V. Jenkins High School in Savannah, and he received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management, cum laude, from Georgia Southern College in 1972. He was a salesman for Burroughs Business Machines in Charleston, South Carolina, before entering graduate school. In 1976, he completed his Master of Accountancy at the University of South Carolina where he taught accounting as a graduate assistant. He worked as a Certified Public Accountant for Elliott Davis CPA in Greenville, South Carolina, and Blockbuster Videos/Discovery Zone in Spartanburg, South Carolina. During these years he taught accounting as adjunct faculty at Furman University in Greenville. He was Vice President and Treasurer at Arkwright Mills and retired in 2017 as CFO of Tate Metalworks, both in Spartanburg.
Rusty was a member of the former Morningside Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia.
